My name is Nikhitha Narayan Kharvi. I was born and brought up in Kundapura. We are a family of 4. My father’s name is K. Narayan Kharvi and he is a Mechanical Engineer by profession. My mother’s name is Lalitha Kharvi and she is a homemaker. I have an elder sister, Namitha Kharvi. I completed my schooling at Holy Rosary English Medium School, Kundapura. My pre-university studies were from Viveka PU College, Kota. I graduated in the year 2020 by pursuing Mechanical Engineering from Canara Engineering College, Mangalore. But currently, I am unemployed but working hard to achieve my dreams. I strongly believe that good things take time.

Speaking about my schooling, I was a bright kid in my studies, but my parents never let me down to do extracurricular activities. I joined the Bharatanatyamclass when I was in 1st standard. Dancing made me feel happy. My sports teacher,Mr.Chandrashekar Beejadi made me find my hidden talent in short put and discus throw. I participated in district-level sports. At the same time, he gifted me another platformto recognize that’s THROWBALL. I am a proud state-level throw-ball player. I also took part in NCC in my high school. We were a joint family back then with 8 kids residing in the same house. The best gift my family gave us is they never compared us to other kids for our failures. It was quite a happy and peaceful life. My schooling taught me the most important lesson that is multitasking, teamwork and time management. I got 96.5%. My piece of advice to everyone is don’t lose your precious childhood for marks and grades. Learn to multitask. I request all parents reading this to encourage their kids to go beyond books and to hunt their hidden talents because they teach life lessons. All these made me realize that experience is the best teacher.

I had a lot of friends in my school. I was always around groups, friends club because I was always playing, dancing, and singing in groups and not alone. I had to travel to PU college in the morning and spend time till evening. I was all alone because all my friends in school had joined college around Kundapura. I was left all alone. I think that’s where I slowly left behind and started to turn out from Extrovert to Introvert. My PU college taught me a life lesson “You can still survive if you are left behind alone. Remember, the SUN is alone but still, it shines. It’s going to be hard but hard does not mean impossible.” It’sa life-changing 2 years of everyone’s life. You may be left alone and shattered and depressed, but remember good things takes time. Collect your stones to build an empire. The concept of 85% above in SSLC chooses science or else commerce. If you don’t like maths & if you are average then choose arts. I know this concept is not outdated yet and I had also followed it. My piece of advice is please make sure you decide what you want to be after 2 years. And then decide what stream you want to go for. And there is not only Science commerce and arts. There isa diploma course in the same field. Don’t let your SSLC marks decide your future goals. If you are ever left behind by friends or family, be the one-man/women army.

I was always asked by my peers that whether I took Mechanical engineering because of my father’s profession. I always had a dilemma in answering this question. Yes, my father is my inspiration. Speaking personally, My father had 2 girl child and all my uncles had a son and a daughter. My father always told me that there is no job in the world that girls can’t do. I realized that’s where my heart belongs – is to be a mechanical engineer. I was a kid raised near my father’s workplace. I developed a passion for machines. 4 years of engineering made me realized that mechanical engineering is not just tightening a bolt nut, welding, working on machine tools. It’s just a part of mechanical engineering. There are concepts of the power plant, mechanical design, total quality management,CAD &simulations. Wow, just an amazing field. We were 3 girls and 120 boys in my batch. Mechanical Engineering taught me the truth of life that there is no job a girl can’t do. Many know that I secured a gold medal in engineering but the gold medal I was received was for ‘a GIRL student securing highest marks in mechanical Engineering’. I didn’t dream of the gold medal but got gifted just for following my passion. A personal experience to share I was always judged for my dusky skin. But I was posted as a cover picture of college posters for my achievement. Remember your status, color, caste, gender doesn’t matter. What matters is your work and purity in your work.

As of today, I waited & wasted nearly a year and so, just to achieve my dream to study abroad. As I said good things take time. My application may be accepted or may be rejected, but I am happy that I gave it a try and my parents supported me. Always have a plan B. My plan is B is constant learning from mistakes. My kind request to all parents out there is don’t blame your kids for not being extraordinary. Support for the passion, the talents they possess. Mental health is an important asset. My piece of advice to the younger generation is to choose different fields, not just doctors, engineers. Be an artist or a graphic design or an entrepreneur, or an animator or a fashion designer or a lawyer or a CA, etc. But never sacrifice your dreams. I always believed in one statement and I always follow in bad times. THIS TIME PASSES AWAY, IT IS JUST A BAD DAY NOT A BAD LIFE. Apply this in your life too and see the difference. Thanks for listening to me. I heartily thank everyone for your good wishes and I pray for good mental health and happiness to everyone.

  1. Brilliant Expression of your thoughts and beliefs … it is always good to hear from someone who has gone through the troubles and challenges of Life and achieved a milestone. Iam sure you have miles to go and you will reach there with flying colors someday. Good job… keep it up.
